Once upon a time I used to have a job that blessed me with many many days off, so many in fact that I would run out of things to busy myself with so I would venture into central and waste the afternoon reading in coffee shops or getting lost in Londons back streets. On one of my jaunts I noticed a small alleyway between two shops on Monmouth street named Neals Yard. My curiosity lead me down the ally and into what I can only describe as a psychadelic acid trip. I came out into a court yard where the walls are painted a dazzling array of bright colours and trees are planted in metal drums. I looked up to see flower boxes perched on every window seal, overflowing with blossoming flora. I had been living in London for a considerable amount of time at this point and had no idea how I had never stumbled across this hidden gem. I had never even heard of it and I’m sure my friends hadnt either. I took a look around and soon noticed a running theme with the shops which involved an organic health shop, salad bar and hair salon. I’ve since learnt that Neals Yard is a brand which specialises in health care and beauty products. I sat in a restaurant/cafe named Neals Yard Salad Bar Which opens out into the courtyard. Admittedly the menu was overpriced and I wouldn’t really rate my food but it’s all about the location. There’s also a pizza restaurant which has recently opened but I haven’t had the pleasure yet. I recommend doing brunch here and going mad with Instagram at least once this summer. If you are visiting London be sure to stop here en route to Covent Garden.
